A few short years ago Antiques by Zaar was merely a vision of what it could be for entrepreneurs Mark and Ruth Olbrych. After 15 years of international living, (Haiti, Canada, Thailand and Taiwan respectively) the couple felt it was time to re establish the family in the U.S. and thus worked toward just that. FULL STORY Shortly after their 1999 move to Maine they further sought to create a venue in which they could capitalize on Mark's 20 years in the corporate/international world and Ruth's interpersonal skills...trusting that by working for themselves such would enable them to jointly raise their three children, Zach, Arianna and Avery...... Yes, the ZAA of Zaar.
Embracing the world of the Internet they carefully but decidedly ventured forth, establishing their storefront through a web site, presenting a small but selective line of Chinese Antique furniture and accessories. That initial web site which featured a mere 60 pieces, organized in 6 categories, now regularly boasts no less than 800 pieces organized in 24 different categories.
As has always been the case Mark continues to hand select all inventory available by making regular buying trips to China. As Mark personalizes the buying of the merchandise, Ruth similarly personalizes the selling of it, trying to give ultimate attention to each and every inquiry that is received by phone or email. Together they make the purchase of an Oriental treasure from Antiques by Zaar the next best thing to going to China yourself! Their growing list of letters featured in the TESTIMONIAL SECTION of their site attest to the high level of customer satisfaction felt over the years.
